Additional Prayers
Prayer before the Office
The following prayers may be said silently before the Office:
Aperi Domini
Open my mouth, O Lord, to bless thy holy Name: cleanse my heart from all vain, evil, and wandering thoughts; enlighten my understanding and kindle my affections, that I may fittingly recite this Office with attention and devotion, and so may be meet to be heard before the presence of thy divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of S. Gertrude
O Lord, in union with that divine intention wherewith thou thyself didst offer thy praises to God while upon the earth, I now recite this Office to thee.
“O Lord, hear our prayer.”
If the Officiant says “O Lord, hear our prayer.” instead of “The Lord be with you.”, please respond “And let our cry come unto thee.”
Closing Versicles and Final Pater
Officiant: The Lord be with you. (O Lord, hear our prayer.)
People: And with thy spirit. (And let our cry come unto thee.)
Officiant: Let us bless the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Officiant: May the souls of the faithful, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
People: Amen.
Then all pray “Our Father,” etc., silently.
Officiant: The Lord give us his peace.
People: And life everlasting. Amen.
Final Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Officiant: Gracious Mother of our Redeemer, for ever abiding
All: Heaven’s Gateway, and star of ocean, O succour the people,
Who, though falling, strive to rise again,
Thou maiden who barest thy holy Creator,
To the wonder of all nature;
Ever Virgin, after, as before thou receivedst that Ave
From the mouth of Gabriel; have compassion on us sinners
Officiant: The Angel of the Lord brought tidings to Mary
People: And she conceived by the Holy Ghost
Officiant: Let us pray.
We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts: that, as we have known the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an Angel, so by his cross and passion may we be brought unto the glory of his resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.
(2nd Collect- TO BE USED FROM 1ST EVENSONG OF THE NATIVITY ONWARD UNTIL CANDLEMAS)
Officiant: After Childbearing, O Virgin, thou didst remain inviolate
People: intercede for us, O Mother of God
Officiant: Let us Pray.
O God, who by the fruitful virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary hast bestowed upon mankind the reward of eternal salvation: grant, we beseech thee, that we may know the help of her intercession, through whom we have been accounted worthy to receive the Author of our life, Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord.
People: Amen.
Officiant: May the divine assistance remain with us always.
People: And with our absent brothers and sisters. Amen.

To the holy and undivided Trinity, to the crucified Humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the fruitful Virginity of the blessed and glorious ever Virgin Mary, and to the whole company of the saints, be everlasting praise, honour, power, and glory from every creature, and unto us the remission of all our sins for ever, world without end. Amen.
